Drumheller Institution is a medium-security facility with a minimum-security Annex located on the outskirts of
Medium-security inmates are housed mainly in four units. The Annex consists of nine living units with four shared bedrooms.
Personal development programs and general and vocational education programs are available. The Institution has also developed and implemented an employability skills acquisition program. Programs adapted to Aboriginal culture and spirituality are also available.

Calgary Correctional Centre
Opened in 1958, this facility accommodates 386 sentenced male adult inmates. It includes 38 intermittent beds (for inmates serving their sentences on the weekend) and 56 beds for inmates in protective custody.
Programs:
- Cleaning, building maintenance, laundry as well as food preparation and kitchen duties.
- Anger management, life management, addictions awareness and family violence prevention.
- Since 1996, inmates have partnered with both the Calgary and International Lion's Clubs to recycle eyewear for third world countries. 250,000 to 300,000 eye glasses are shipped each year.
- In cooperation with the Chinook Kiwanis Club, approximately 2,500 bicycles have been refurbished. This same program has also repaired snowboards for under privileged children.
- T-Ball targets were made by the carpentry program and donated to a local little league association.

Calgary Remand Centre
Built in 1993, the Calgary Remand Centre provides housing for 704 remanded male and female inmates who are:
- Awaiting trial
- Sentenced inmates with further charges
- Parolees whose parole has been suspended or revoked
- Inmates waiting transfer to appropriate provincial and federal institutions
- Detainees held under the federal immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Programs:
- Self-management, independent living skills, addictions awareness and substance abuse.
- Access to community agencies such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous as well as the Elizabeth Fry and John Howard Societies.
- Correctional service volunteers assist with casework, education, health care, placement/classification, psychiatry, recreation, and spiritual issues.
- An outdoor exercise yard, weight room and activity room in each living unit, and gymnasium and library.

Built in 1983 this centre accommodates 387 male and female sentenced and remanded inmates. The centre can also house persons intoxicated when arrested.
Programs:
- Inmates are trained in various aspects of horticulture and building maintenance.
- A full time Native program coordinator addresses the needs of Aboriginal inmates and coordinates the regular attendance of Elders to provide sweat lodges and other religious ceremonies. Work crew projects include cutting and clearing of shelter belts for local communities, and splitting fire wood which is donated to volunteer organizations for resale.
- The wood industries shop manufactures wooden toys and jewelry boxes that are given as gifts to less fortunate individuals.
- The small engine repair shop donates lawnmowers to local charities.
- Inmates provide site clean up, renovations and maintenance for local non-profit agencies, municipalities and other government departments.

Built in 1986, the Medicine Hat Remand Centre is a multi purpose 103-bed correctional facility that accommodates male and female sentenced and remanded adults. Each month about 60 to 80 intoxicated persons are temporarily detained under the Gaming and Liquor Act.
Programs:
- Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Gideon Bible study, Medicine Hat Support Group, and Road to Recovery Support group.
- Recreational facilities include four outdoor exercise yards, one indoor yard, two multi station weigh rooms, and an inmate library.

Kainai Community Correctional Centre
Opened in 1990 on the Blood Reserve in Standoff, Kainai Community Correctional Centre is a 24 bed minimum security correctional centre for Aboriginal inmates.
Programs:
- The Blood Tribe delivers community-based correctional services to members on its Reserve and to those in surrounding communities. It recognizes the particular needs of Aboriginal people in conflict with the law, and a willingness of Aboriginal leaders, organizations, and communities to play an active role in delivering community-based correctional programs to their people.
- The centre and related programs are overseen by a non-profit society with a Board of Directors. Local Aboriginal Elders provide counseling and spiritual instruction to inmates.
- The centre offers a community work program and life skills instruction which are intended to assist inmates in gradual reintegration into the community.
